A major US electronic payment player that serves over half the firms in the Dow Jones Industrial Average is to create 60 new jobs over the next three years at a new software development centre in Belfast.
California-headquartered CyberSource expects to employ 20 engineers and support staff in its first year, scaling to 60 workers within three years.
The Belfast-based team will integrate with CyberSource’s four existing US development centres in California, Texas, Utah and Washington.
“We work to drive ongoing innovation in e-payment management, and that mission demands top-calibre developers to keep us ahead of our global customers’ requirements,” CyberSource’s chairman and CEO, Bill McKiernan explained.
“Northern Ireland is heavily invested in advanced technology education, giving us ready access to an excellent talent pool. CyberSource develops solutions for merchants worldwide who are selling to an increasingly global market, so the new development centre is a natural extension of our operations to tap the best available engineering talent.”
The investment will be supported by Invest Northern Ireland with a £840,000 sterling funding package.
CyberSource said this support will allow it to accelerate staffing growth without any increase in its 2008 expense plan.
“CyberSource’s choice of Belfast is further proof that world business leaders see Northern Ireland as a preferred development site,” said Invest Northern Ireland’s chief executive, Leslie Morrison. “We welcome CyberSource to our growing family of international companies.”
