Digisoft.tv launches movie downloads down under

[17.06.2008 first posted on silicon republic]
Irish-headquartered IPTV technology company Digitsoft..tv has launched its eRental Movie Download Platform.

The technology enables customers to download high-definition (HD) and standard-definition (SD) movies from an in-store kiosk to a portable storage device for later viewing at home.
The system was developed in conjunction with Australian home video franchise Video Ezy, which will deploy the system in its stores.
The system uses best-of-breed encryption and watermarking technologies from Verimatrix.
The main components of the eRental Movie Download platform include an in-store kiosk with movie library, branded USB or iPod-type storage system and in-home Java set-top box. The customer plugs the USB or iPod into the kiosk to select movies to rent for later playback on the Java set-top box.. They only pay for what they watch.
“The eRental Movie Download Platform is a dynamic content delivery platform that offers operators and retailers alike new revenue opportunities,” said Tom Higgins, executive chairman, Digisoft.tv. “In developing this solution we have worked closely with partners such as Video Ezy and Verimatrix to deliver an end-to-end carrier-class solution that meets the demands of the market today but is futureproofed to allow for new product offerings and delivery models into the future.”
The platform is based on Digisoft’s Java-based middleware technology and utilises high-profile H.264 encoding and is designed to be comparable with Blu-ray technology. It is fully integrated with the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) security solution, combining robust encryption with forensic watermarking, output copy protection, as well as sophisticated and innovative software and hardware anti-tamper technologies to protect premium content from Hollywood and other sources.
DigiSoft.tv was founded in 2000 and is headquartered in Ireland and has offices in the US, UK, Singapore and New Zealand.
